Brief

A next generation lockbox with successful Kickstarter campaign and also featured on Shark Tank closing investment from Kevin O’Leary and Barbara Corcoran. Toor provides a safe and smarter way to discover and access real estate properties for the customers who are looking in real-time, but also allows realtors and home owners to monitor and provide access remotely with the help of built-in BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) & cellular technology.

Toor’s vision was to create a world-class, innovative, sleek and smart lockbox that allows home owner & realtors to manage access to their properties and keys from anywhere in the world, conveniently from smartphone.

Project solution

When Junior first contacted us, he was looking for a technology partner capable of taking his idea and help him develop proof of concept to a market ready product. Some of the initial requirements he presented were:

  • Lockbox shall be operated remotely and operate from a smartphone
  • Lockbox shall have 6 months of battery life
  • Lockbox shall detect presence of keys inside
  • Lockbox shall detect movement
  • Lockbox shall have RGB indicator LED

Our goal at MBARC is to help client develop their business not just their product. We took the challenge and started from defining the requirements and created first proof of concept within 15 days from there on our team went to work. Our work included in defining requirements, identifying failure scenarios, design and development of hardware and firmware for the TOOR Lockbox. We delivered working prototype within first 3 months with a test app that can be used to operate the lockbox. Once the product design was completed we helped TOOR with sourcing components and developed a production test setup where all the devices goes under automated functional testing and gets provisioned in to the TOOR database where they are ready to be sold and used by end user.

Results

TOOR was an instant success, pre-selling thousands of units on Kickstarter and got investment deals from two investors on Shark Tank. Vacation rentals hosts, home owners, realtors and brokers alike are using the new product in a way that’s changing the landscape of easy and quick access, real estate discovery and independent brokering.
